Ryerson University Posting for Legal Counsel

Legal Counsel

Ryerson's legal team is expanding to add a Legal Counsel, reporting to the General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Governors. As a result, we are looking for an exceptional lawyer to be a part of our growing legal practice.
As Legal Counsel, you will provide a full range of legal services relating to the business of the university, with an emphasis on procurement, real estate, and corporate/commercial matters. You will assess legal risks, advise on legal and policy compliance, and ensure that the university's reputation and interests are protected. You will be aware of ongoing developments in legislation and jurisprudence, and will be able to provide strategic advice on a timely basis.
You must be a team player who values building relationships with your colleagues and the university community. You must be highly analytical and possess excellent communication skills necessary to express ideas and information to your client groups. You will influence, persuade and use your tact and diplomacy to achieve the university's objectives. You are flexible and enjoy working in a dynamic environment. You are meticulously organized and capable of handling a multitude of activities within time constraints.
Qualifications
You must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada and have a minimum of five (5) years legal experience, gained in private practice or in-house. You have demonstrated experience working with procurement documentation, real estate transactions, construction contracts and commercial leases. Experience working on private/ public partnerships would be desirable. You have outstanding analytical, drafting and negotiation skills.
